Someone left the gate, of the emergency containment area in Timperley, open.Clara, a three year old African elephant, smelt freedom and the call of the circus and within minutes she had snapped her shackles and was off out of the gate and down Ash Grove.
A spokesperson for TEC (Timperley Elephant Control) apologised for the unfortunate incident, but added that next year's Timperley Early Rhubarb crop might be the beneficiary of some hastily collected droppings in Clara's wake. She was very excited!
